Keep your gauge with every project

You love the yarn, but your swatch has fewer or more stitches than the pattern asks for. Instead of going up and down needle sizes until the fabric feels wrong, keep your fabric and convert the pattern's counts.
Example: the pattern casts on 120 stitches at 22 sts per 4 in. Your gauge is 20 sts per 4 in. 120 × 20 ÷ 22 = 109 stitches give the same width.
What to watch
Convert every count that sets a size: cast-on, bind-off, pick-ups, and rows for length. Then check stitch repeats: if the pattern works in multiples of 4, round to the nearest multiple of 4. Shaping instructions ("decrease every 6th row") need converting too.
